Nellore: To improve passenger comfort, the railway authorities have sanctioned three staircases for Nellore station. This is in addition to the three newly installed elevators for passengers who have to ride on the foot-bridge connecting platforms 1, 2, 3 and 4.



Regarding the development of other work in the station, away from head is extended to platforms 1 and 3. Sources in the wing railway said that the importance was given to improving facilities for passengers because Nellore is second only to Vijayawada station compared to a net revenue passengers.


Nellore is one of the 105 stations in Vijayawada division and the production of income was Rs.34 crore against Rs.29 crore in 2011 in 2010 and Rs.24 crore in 2009. Rajahmundry in third place in the revenue earnings. Citing the growing number of rail passengers Nellore, railway users association has been demanding an AC waiting hall for upper class passengers. They argue that it is a necessity, pointing to nearly 200 passengers traveling in compartments from UI to the state capital of Nellore alone every day.


They also require a direct train to Shirdi, referring to the availability of direct trains from Machilipatnam, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam Shirdi. Speaking to this newspaper, the station manager Anthony Jayraj said people demanded a direct train to Shirdi especially after the opening of Shirdi Sai Nagar station.


He said they had been deputing the Railway Police to regulate the passengers crowded Nellore station reservation under Tatkal quota daily. Mr Jayraj said there was a stampede like situation every day, as soon as the room doors were opened for booking and assistance of the police sought to avoid any untoward incidents.


People waited outside the room booking from midnight to be first in the queue for tickets Tatkal, he added.
