Nellore : Congress groups in the district have been vying with each other for the District Congress Committee president’s post in the wake of PCC plans to fill this shortly. The post is lying vacant after former DCC chief Yellasiri Gopal Reddy migrated to the YSR Congress nearly one and half years ago. Former corporator and follower of the Anam brothers, Mr Chatla Narasimha Rao, who is chief of the city Congress, holds additional responsibility after Mr Gopal Reddy left the party.
According to information, Union minister of state for textiles Panabaka Lakshmi has also proposed the name of her close follower Haribabu Yadav for the post and their recommendation had led him to become secretary of the PCC and director of housing in the past. In the wake of the PCC decision to allot the post to a BC leader, Anam group has recommended the name of Mr R. Ravikumar Yadav, a close follower of finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, with the NJR group coming out with the name of Mr Udatha Venkata Rao Yadav.
A senior Congress leader said that PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana is in a dilemma over choosing the candidate since all three groups have close rapport with him. He said that there was a proposal some time ago to give the post to MLC Vakati Nara-yana Reddy since he was maintaining a close relationship with all groups.
However the idea was dropped after Anam group expressed reservations over his candidature allegedly because of his identity as an NJR man, a senior leader said. He said that Anam group has also suggested the name of former DCC vice-president and former whip in the Nellore civic body Sannapareddy Penchal Reddy, if the PCC wants to give the post to anybody other than BCs.
The Congress leader said that very few leaders are interested in the post since they have to spend from their pockets for party programmes.
