Nellore : The minister for finance, Mr Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, expressed confidence in the victory of Mr Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy for Pulivendula Assembly seat. He said that Mr Vivekananda Reddy’s decades-old acquaintance with constituents will pave the way for his success. However, he said that it was not easy to predict the outcome of the Parliament seat since it contains seven constituencies.
Speaking to this newspaper at his residence here on Wednesday, he said that Mr Vivekananda Reddy was an approachable candidate and had touch with every family in the Pulivedula segment. Moreover, he was taking care of the constituency whoever was elected from the family from the beginning. He stressed the need to create awareness among people that YSR Congress means Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress and not Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhar Reddy Congress. “The electorate is being misled by the party name,” Mr Ramanarayana Reddy said. He said that he had started canvassing on these lines in Pulivendula from Monday and the public response was satisfactory.
“Blaming the Congress does not go well with the electorate since the party gave the ticket to YSR’s wife soon after his demise and ensured her unanimous victory in the bypolls held in December 2009,” Mr Reddy maintained. He said that people were concerned about incomplete irrigation projects such as the Gandikota reservoir, Telugu Ganga canal and Galeru Nagari phase-I since they were dependent on these schemes to irrigate 2.5 to 3 lakh acres in the region.
“Sizeable funds are required for these projects and people are aware of the necessity to elect a ruling party candidate to realise the schemes,” the minister asserted. He said that all these factors will give an edge to the ruling party in the bypolls. Gajuvaka (Visakhapatnam) legislator, Mr Chintalapudi Venkataramaiah, was present with the minister. Both of them left for Badvel in Kadapa district in the morning to canvas.
